UPDATE: Hmm….looks like I need a different image. For now - image a cute little sheep impaled by a sleeping dart (trust me, just imagine it).

On a side note, I was chatting with some “gamer-friends” the other night and one of them was complaining about his sister. Another chimed in about his brother. And on it went. Finally, I broke in and said how much I love spending time with my brothers and my sister. If you had seen us while we were growing up, you’d never have thought that a possible outcome in our adult years, but I really enjoy their company. In fact, I can’t think of anyone who’s company I’d pick over their’s.

But don’t tell them I said that.

So between now and then, I need to complete a quarterly report and get it filed and approved. My backup plan is to take my laptop with me and make any needed corrections from the hotel….but let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

I also need to finish off Seascape. I’m all but there - just a few rows and blocking left and it will be ready for Mom’s birthday on Monday.

However…it’s going fairly well. This is a very early photo (I’m much farther along now) and I have about 1/3 left to go. I need to have it finished for July 21st for my mother’s birthday. Mom travels a lot, and loves to go on cruises. Part of the joy of cruises for her is the formal dinners, so I thought a light shawl might work well. And I have to say, this pattern is terrific. It’s Seascape and the yarn is Fleece Artist’s Suri Blue. The fabric is a little denser than the patterns, and I’m going to add a repeat to get the length, but otherwise I’m very happy with it.

Not bad, but after 3 1/2 years even my paralysis had worn off. One day, about two weeks ago, I was flipping through a craft book at work and had a brilliant inspiration — cornices! Easy to make and easy to hang, or so the book claimed. Without giving myself time to second guess, we first dashed off to find some drapes:

With those safely hung, my husband crafted the cornice boxes and between us we used an extra drape panel, some batting and a whole lot of staples, and ta-da…custom cornices to match the drapes:

All in all, very easy to do. And I’m pretty please with the results. We did the same treatment on the window of the office/den which is next to the dining room. It’s so light and airy in here now!

I did, however, learn a life’s truism today during my flight from Calgary to Abbotsford. It is simply this: Everyone and his grandmother (literally in some cases) now require assistance and so line up to pre-board. However, no one needs assistance deplaning.

Go figure.

Found this on a Ravelry post…and didn’t want to lose it!

Well, at least until something else comes off the needles.

But this, this is for my husband. It’s not quite the knitted jacket he admired in a gift shop last New Year’s, but I think he’ll like it anyway - the “concept”, a zippered jacket, is the same. I’ve been reading the different observations of the project at Ravelry, and will definitely have to keep in mind the potential problems with the sleeves. For now though, it’s a nice steady easy knit. Perfect for watching Farscape.
